Pinerolo sorge ai piedi delle Alpi Cozie fra le valli Chisone e Pellice, i primi dati certi relativi all'origine del centro abitato risalgono al 1064 d.c. quando fu fondata dalla contessa Adelaide di Susa. Le origini toponomastiche del nome relative al 981, provengono da di Pinariolum è diminutivo di pinarium, cioè luogo piantato a pini, pineta. La località di Pinerolo situata a soli 37 Km da Torino, è oggi un importante centro economico. Grazie al suo passato storico e alla posizione geografica è anche un ottimo punto di partenza per i turisti. Chi si reca a Pinerolo potrà visitare il Duomo dedicato a San Donato è originario del X secolo, fu edificato in forme gotiche nel XV secolo, probabilmente per volere della potente corporazione dei mercanti di lane. E' anche presente il Tempio Valdese costruito intorno a 1855, la costruzione è una delle primi ad essere stata costruita dai Valdesi al di fuori delle loro valli.
