La Repubblica delle Maldive è uno stato insulare di 349.106 abitanti (stima del 2005) composto da un gruppo di atolli situati nell'Oceano Indiano a sud-sudovest dell'India. La Repubblica di Mauritius è una nazione insulare nell'Oceano Indiano sud-occidentale, a circa 900 km a est del Madagascar, considerata parte del continente Africano. Oltre all'isola principale, la repubblica comprende anche le isole di Saint Brandon e Rodrigues e le Isole Agalega. Mauritius fa parte delle Isole Mascarene, assieme all'isola francese di Réunion, situata 200 km a sud-ovest. L'immagine di un rosso tramonto tropicale o di una candida spiaggia lambita da una placida laguna turchese non rende completamente giustizia alla varietà geografica e paesaggistica che Mauritius sa offrire al visitatore. La Repubblica delle Seychelles, situata nell’Oceano Indiano occidentale, conta 115 isole per un totale di 455 km2 di terraferma e una Zona Economica Esclusiva di 1.4 milioni di km2 di mare. Quest’area racchiude un’arcipelago di leggendaria bellezza che si estende tra i 4 e gli 8 gradi a sud dell’equatore e dista tra i 480km e 1600km dalle coste orientali dell’Africa.
